Christine Tobin presented her new work commissioned by the Improvised Music Company at The Complex Dublin on 3rd April as part of the New Music Dublin festival!
Tobin’s new composition for BAN BAM, ‘Pseudologia Fantastica’ explores themes of disinformation, and the misappropriation of new technologies. "In the history of communication, we have never been so connected, yet we often find ourselves divided, mistrustful and weighed down by dark uncertainties."
Performed by Christine with the accompaniment of cellist Kate Shortt, the 45 min piece includes spoken word, 8 compositions, improvised soundscapes, song, live electronic fx and hand percussion, marking a new direction for this artist.

"Now, words have lost their meaning. They have become mere word vessels or word shells. What’s that expression the cockneys use? Can I have A WORD in your shell-like? The King is pouring poison into the shell. Alas poor Yorich, I (once) knew him well
The words mean nothing
All I hear are the words
I think I understand them, but can’t comment or add to them. After I absorb the words, I am empty. My mind is blank, I have nothing to say. All I can speak of, is the emptiness."
